Creation
Lesson One
by Patricia Dailey

In the beginning God created the heaven and earth.
Genesis 1:1

The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:
the world, and they that dwell therein.
For He hath founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the floods.

Psalm 24:1,2

When I consider Thy heavens,
the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars,
which Thou hast ordained.

Psalm 8:3

…which doeth great things and unsearchable:
marvelous things without number.

Job 5:9

Thou art worthy, O Lord,
to receive glory and honour and power:
for Thou hast created all things,
and for thy pleasure they were created.

Revelation 4:11

The Creator

Man is always trying to figure out how everything came into being. Many try to prove that the Bible is fiction - that there is no Creator. They say there was a big bang out in space - and everything JUST came into existence.

When they say that all this just happened out there with a "big bang" it is not true. All one has to do is look around at the heavens to realize that there is a Creator. It took a Creator to put the moon and stars in place.

There are so many theories about creation. Man may have his theory, thinking it’s this way or that way - yet God is unsearchable; and He said He created the heaven and the earth in the beginning.

There are many mysteries about God and His creation which He hasn’t chosen to reveal to man. Though He has revealed a small portion to us, He hasn’t told it all.

Look at the beauty of what He has made: the ocean, the trees, the skies, the mountains, and all the vastness of His creation!  And the wonder of it all is to think that He shares it with us! so that we, too, can have pleasure out of what He has created.

CREATOR:
maker;
one who brings into existence

 THEORY:
assumption;
suppose something is true

The heavens declare the glory of God:
and the firmament sheweth His handiwork.

Psalm 19:1

They that observe lying vanities
forsake their own mercy.

Jonah 2:8

Evidence That God Exists

The devil may try to convince you that there is no God - but all you need do is to look UP. Take note of the glory of God. Take note of His handiwork. Certainly, all that isn’t up there by accident!

If you will listen to him, the devil will cause you to doubt God. He’ll get your mind focused on his fiery darts, those darts that say there is no God.  But you need to take note of God’s creation, acknowledging His handiwork.

Don’t entertain those lies from the devil. Don’t observe man’s theories. Get into the Bible, and note what it has to say about your Creator.

When you believe the lying vanities that Satan would bring before you, you forsake the mercy God has to offer.

CREATION:
something that is created,
brought into existence

He hath made everything beautiful in His time:
also He hath set the world in their heart,
so that no man can find out
the work that God maketh
from the beginning to the end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

 God thundereth marvelously with His voice;
great things doeth He, which we cannot comprehend.

see Job 37:5-12

And He arose, and rebuked the wind,
and said unto the sea,
Peace, be still.
And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And they feared exceedingly,
and said one to another,
What manner of man is this,
that even the wind and the sea obey him?

see Mark 4:39-41

Lo, these are parts of His ways,
but how little a portion is heard of Him?
but the thunder of His power,
who can understand?

Job 26:14

Then I beheld all the work of God,
that a man cannot find out
the work that is done under the sun:
because though a man labour to seek it out,
yet he shall not find it;
yea further;
though a wise man think to know it,
yet shall he not be able to find it.

Ecclesiastes 8:17

The Unsearchable Ways of God

No man can find out the work of God. They chomp at the bit to be able to figure it all out, but they will never be able to.

For instance, they’ll never find out how God merely spoke . . . and it was.

Man tires to play God, doesn’t he. But he never can comprehend all that God has done.

It’s a good desire to want to learn all we can about God. The understanding we gain is helpful to us - but we will never be able to comprehend it ALL.

HE HAS CONTROL OVER THE STORMS! When He speaks peace, the storm will cease. After all, He made all of this - and, therefore, He has control over it!

Realize, now, that God does have authority over what He has made. He merely has to speak - and His creation must obey.

All that God has written of Himself in His Word is such a little portion of all there is to know. We haven’t seen it all, nor have we heard it all. In fact, there is so little that we have seen and heard! Yes, we know so little of all there is to know about God.

Even though man puts forth a lot of effort to understand and find out all that God has created - he barely touches the surface of all there is!  He may think he has found out a lot - but he never will find it all!

There are many who are wise in this world.  Yet are not really wise: for wise men will seek God, and those who are wise in this world are not seeking God. In fact, they seek to disprove that there is a God. They study and study the creation to find ways of providing that God doesn’t exist.

God is a Spirit:
and they that worship him
must worship him in spirit and in truth.

John 4:24

No man hath seen God at any time:
the only begotten Son,
which is in the bosom of the Father,
He hath declared Him.

John 1:18

And the Father Himself,
which hath sent Me,
hath borne witness of Me.
Ye have neither heard His voice at any time,
nor seen His shape.

John 5:37

The Unsearchable Ways of God

God cannot be seen. The Scripture is clear to tell us that He is a Spirit (not in bodily form).

Some people claim to have seen God - but the Scriptures are plain that nobody has ever seen God and lived.

We can see evidence of God in His creation; we see Him in His express image (Jesus Christ); and we should see Him in the lives of the believers.

Jesus put great emphasis in His teachings on the Father. In John 14:9 He said that if you see Him then you see His Father.

If these people had an ear to hear God, then they would have heard what Jesus was trying to tell them - but their hearts were hard, and their ears dull of hearing.

Who is the image of the invisible God,
the first born of every creature.

Colossians 1:15

Now unto the king eternal, immortal, invisible,
the only wise God,
be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen

I Timothy 1:17

Who only hath immortality,
dwelling in the light
which no man can approach unto:
whom no man hath seen, nor can see:
to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen

I Timothy 6:16

For now we see through a glass darkly:
but then face to face,
now I know in part:
but then shall I know even as also I am known.

I Corinthians 13:12

God is Unseen

God is invisible: Jesus is His image. And in Jesus we can see the invisible God.

God is eternal - with no beginning nor ending.

There are four things mentioned about God in 1 Timothy 1:17

He is eternal
He is immortal
He is invisible, and
He is the only wise God

Keep in mind that no man has seen God at any time. There is a day when we will see Him face to face in glory - but, until then, He remains invisible to us.

We can’t approach unto the immortality of God in this life. He dwells in the light of His kingdom - whereas we dwell in this mortal dwelling place. And as long as we are in this mortal body, we won’t see God.

We can see God now in many ways - but not face to face: but then, we will see Him face to face (see I John 3:1,2).

IMAGE:
exact likeness

IMMORTAL:
exempt from death;
having unending existence

In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth
. . . and the Spirit of God
moved upon the face of the waters.

Genesis 1:1,2

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by Him:
and without Him was not anything made
that was made.

John 1:1-3

For by Him were all things created,
that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers:
all things were created by Him,
and for Him.

Colossians 1:16

The Pre-Existence of Jesus

We have already seen that God is the Creator, and therefore was present at the Creation. Here we see that the Spirit of God was also present.

And, as we look further, we can see where Jesus was there, too:

When it speaks here about the Word, it is referring to Jesus.

We also see here where Jesus took part in the creation - along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

A simply way to understand the concept of the Godhead (three in one) is to look at an egg:

* you buy an egg at the store, and what you see is the shell.
* then you crack it open and find the white,
* and the yolk.

Thus, the SHELL, the WHITE, and the YOLK make up an egg (though any of these, alone, could be identified as an egg).

They are THREE IN ONE! three different parts, yet all three make up the total egg.

* When you buy an egg, you get all three parts.

* When the chicken lays the egg, it lays all three parts - yet just one egg. It doesn’t lay just the shell, or just the yolk, or just the white. It lays all three parts in one egg: THREE IN ONE!

PRE-EXISTENCE:
existing before

For there are three
that bear record in heaven,
The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.

I John 5:7

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptising them in the
name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 28:19

For by Him were all things created,
that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers:
all things were created by him, and for him.

Colossians 1:16

also see Ephesians 3:9 and Hebrews 1:1,2

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, before Abraham was, I am.
John 8:58

We are not serving three Gods when we refer to the Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is a distinct personality - three distinct personalities in ONE.

That verse doesn’t state names (plural). It says in the name of (singular) the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Again, three different personalities IN ONE.

Remember, now, what the first verse in the Bible states (as well as the first verse in John). The Word of God was in the beginning.

Before Abraham ever was born - Jesus was. This, once again, signifies the pre-existence of Christ.

see Revelations 1:11 and Micah 5:2

And now, O Father,
glorify Thou Me with Thine Own self
with the glory which I had with thee
before the world was.

John 17:5

 When he prepared the heavens,
I was there:
when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: when he established the clouds above:
when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
when he gave to the sea His decree,
that the waters should not pass his commandment:
when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
then I was with him, as one brought up with him:
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing always before him.

see Proverbs 8:22-30

In praying to the Father before the crucifixion, Jesus makes reference to the fact that He was with the Father before the world ever came into existence.

We can’t really comprehend all of this - yet it is true. It is a mystery of God. We do know, though, that the Godhead is made up of three distinct personalities (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) - three YET one.

We always want to know the beginning of things - yet all we know of the pre-existence of the Godhead is what little the Word would reveal to us.

From the Scriptures, we know that God had no beginning - nor any ending. We can’t fully understand this - yet we know it to be true.

If God had a beginning, there would have to be another God around to have made Him - and so on, further back and further back . . . to where?

CONCLUSION
IN THIS LESSON WE HAVE SEEN:

In the beginning GOD created the heaven and the earth
Genesis 1:1

He created all of this for His pleasure
Revelation 4:11

His creation is evidence that He exists
Psalm 19:1

Man will never fully comprehend all that God has done
Job 37:5-12

. . . because God’s ways are unsearchable
Job 5:9

God is a Spirit - unseen
John 4:24

Jesus Christ is the express image of His Father
Colossians 1:15

Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit took part in the creation
Genesis 1:2 and John 1:1-3

And these three are ONE - known as the Godhead
I John 5:7

This can be understood by observing an egg:
3 parts in ONE (shell, yolk, white)

* The Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) are pre-existent,
having had no beginning; nor having any ending
